Mission Statement

The mission of Farming For the Future Academy is to unlock each student’s potential to achieve success in their education endeavors, regardless of abilities and diversity, in an agricultural learning environment.

Vision

Farming For the Future Academy, Inc. will have a Pre K – 12th grade and autism educational program, students will work at their own pace to successfully achieve the highest grade level.   A technical farming environment will be used, but not limited to, agriculture, horticulture, marketing as part of the core curriculum for all students.  Each student, regardless of ability, will receive an Individualized Educational Program (IEP) to build an educational major that will include the student and family’s goals and interests.  A base team will follow each student and collaborate to ensure all goals are being met to the best of the student’s ability.

Students in Kindergarten -3rd grade will work through a set curriculum.  Upon meeting set goals each student will be allowed to form a major in an area of interest.  Collaboration between the student, family and core team will ensure that each major is well rounded and includes Montana Standards of Education for that grade level.

High priority will be placed by working in the Outdoor classroom to implement Indoor Classroom curriculum/materials.  Greenhouses will be used to avoid most adverse weather and to continue hands-on learning throughout the school year.  Barns, arenas and parlors will be used for animal programs, food production, and therapies.

Cash crops will be used to sustain some of the schools programs, such as, but not limited to strawberries, alfalfa, grains, and beef.   These programs will encourage marketing, nutrition, and organic crop awareness.   Cash crop programs will also encourage skills of machine repair, grain and fiber milling, and nutrition for hormone free animal production programs.

Marketing programs will be used to teach sustainable living skills.  All produce; dairy, eggs, grains, fibers and meats will be sold in the Academy’s market to be purchased by, but not limited to,  share crop holders, family members, volunteers and employees.  Some students, along with family involvement, volunteers, faculty members and staff, will be encouraged to be part of the local Farmer’s Market.   All monies obtained will be reinvested to support the Academy and to encourage growth and sustainability.

The use of Technology will be used in programs, such as, but not limited to, touch screen instructional teaching for students of various needs.  Touch screens may be placed throughout the farm where step-by-step instruction is needed; weeding, milking, cleaning, etc…, the screens will have instructions broken down into basic steps to encourage independent learning depending on students needs.

Programs will be developed between the Academy and Graduate Students seeking experience in an alternative setting, but not limited to; education, ABA instruction, therapies, research, agriculture, horticulture and curriculum development.  These programs will encourage innovative and diverse learning opportunities for all involved, either through Fellowships, Student Teaching, Job Shadowing or Apprenticeship programs.  Volunteer programs will be established and used, but not limited, to implement programs and instruction.  Community members, retired educators, local merchants, etc…will have the opportunity to teach skills, give support and labor.

Farming For the Future, Inc.   will be seeking and encouraging new ideas and techniques that may not have been tried in the public school systems.  These ideas will be documented and the research will be used to further our curriculum and programs.  The possibility to use successful educational ideas and techniques in other programs outside the Academy will be sought at a later time depending on need.

Governmental programs, such as, but not limited to; Women, Infants and Children (WIC), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as the Food Stamps Program and Montana Healthy Kids ( Medicaid), will be used to support some of  the Academy’s working capital.  Grants, donations, loans and non-restrictive contributions will be used for start-up and running expenses.

Within the first 5, no less than 10 years, Farming For the Future, Inc.   will seek accreditation.  This will be done through a qualified program which will help guarantee that our students will be given an appropriate and exceptional education, the skills to work in our diverse world and to be successful contributing members of society.  Farming For the Future, Inc.   will seek to branch out to other communities to build like schools depending on need and success.
